Police: Aaron Hernandez May Have Been Gunman In Boston Double Murder

BOSTON (CBSMiami) – The troubling story of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez took another turn Thursday after a search warrant confirmed Boston Police are investigating him for being the triggerman in a 2012 double murder in the city.

Hernandez is currently in jail awaiting murder charges in Connecticut for the death of Odin Lloyd. Connecticut officials believe Lloyd was murdered by Hernandez near the tight end’s home. Hernandez has also been accused of shooting a South Florida man in the face, but no criminal charges were brought.

Boston Police said Hernandez is seen on surveillance video in the same nightclub as the two victims on the night of the attack, according to ESPN. The two victims, Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Texieira Furtado, were shot to death after an SUV pulled up beside their car.

According to ESPN, a June 28 search warrant said Boston Police believe there is probable cause that Hernandez was driving the SUV and “may have been the shooter.”

The SUV involved in the double-murder was given to Hernandez by a Rhode Island company as payment for participating in promotional activities, ESPN reported. The SUV was later found at the home of Hernandez’s uncle.

Hernandez’s trial date hasn’t been set for the murder of Odin Lloyd in North Attleborough, Massachusetts. As of Thursday, Hernandez hasn’t been officially charged with any crime for the Boston double murder.

Aaron Hernandez Indicted In 2012 Double Murder

BOSTON (CBSMiami/AP) — Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has been indicted on murder charges for a 2012 double murder in Boston.

Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were shot as they sat in a car in Boston’s South End. Police have said they were shot by someone who drove up alongside in an SUV and opened fire.

Boston police have written in an affidavit there is probable cause to believe Hernandez was driving a vehicle used in the shooting and “may have been the shooter.”

Hernandez’s lawyers did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Hernandez, who played football at the University of Florida, is currently being held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder in the unrelated death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd last year. Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-professional football player, was dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend. Prosecutors allege Hernandez killed Lloyd because he was upset with him for talking to some people at a nightclub with whom Hernandez had problems.

Hernandez also has a Florida lawsuit pending against him. An associated of his, Alexander Bradley, filed a suit against him alleging he lost his right eye when Hernandez shot him in the face as they argued outside a Miami club in February 2013. Boston police have also linked Bradley to the 2012 double murder.

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The FBI is hoping new information and an increased reward will generate new leads in a cold case double murder.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon at the FBI headquarters in Miramar, authorities revealed a new clue in the unsolved murders of Nancy Bochicchio and her 7-year-old daughter Joey.

The mother and daughter were found shot to death inside their parked vehicle at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton December 12, 2007.

“Some things stay with you and this stayed with me,” said Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander as he held up a photo of the victims.

Police said they were kidnapped at a mall and Bochicchio was forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw money.

The killer bound them with duct tape and plastic ties before shooting them in the parking lot.

“How can anyone have peace when their daughter was tortured their last moments on this earth?” said JoAnn Bruno, Bochicchio’s sister.

For the first time, authorities are revealing that the killer is tied to Miami-Dade County

“Investigators determined that the plastic ties and duct tape were bought at a major home improvement store in Miami-Dade County,” said Alexander.

Police revealed previously that Bochicchio’s credit card and cellphone were discarded in Miami, but until now police weren’t ready to say that the murderer may have lived there.

“Investigators believe the killer may have ties to Dade County and we hope someone will provide the information we need,” said Michael D’Alonzo of the FBI.

The FBI has boosted up the reward to $400,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the FBI at (754) 703-2000, Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The investigation continues as a double homicide in the deaths of a woman and her daughter.

The bodies were discovered on Saturday inside a home at 6812 Doral in North Lauderdale.

Authorities are now identifying the victims as 48-year-old Temoco Williams and her 15-year-old daughter Jada Allen.

The two women were found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene while Williams died after being taken to the hospital.

Authorities do not have anyone in custody for the shooting.

On Saturday at approximately 5:20 a.m. neighbors heard gun shots and called police. Responding deputies discovered the two victims.

Neighbors said the women were new to the neighborhood.

“That person has only been there a few months and I don’t really know her,” said Cristina Sollosso. “That we knew, she did not have a car. There was no car there all the time. But she did have somebody visiting her because there was a black car there occasionally.”

James Dowling has lived in the neighborhood for 12 years. Not much happens in the area without the retired oil worker knowing about it.

“I’m home every day. I usually see what’s going on in the community,” he said. “In North Lauderdale, that’s not supposed to happen. That’s not our type of neighborhood. We have a family-type neighborhood. Police are great. Community’s great. Neighbors are great.”

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is now calling on the public for help.

“At this point, detectives are at the dawn of their investigation,” said BSO spokeswoman Joy Oglesby. “If anyone has any information, perhaps they saw something, heard something, then we’re asking that they come forward and speak with our Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A South Florida family made a passionate plea Thursday – nearly two months after a mother and daughter were murdered in North Lauderdale.

Family members told CBS4’s Carey Codd that Temoco Williams was a dedicated loving mother to her five children and daughter Jada Allen was a smart, outgoing high school student with a bright future.

“It’s horrific. It’s a tragedy,” one family member said.

The mother and daughter were targeted inside their North Lauderdale home in the early morning hours of January 28.

Someone shot them each multiple times and killed them.

Investigators believe they were targeted and have searched for clues as grieving family members hoped to learn who would want them dead.

On Thursday, family members made a plea to the community for help solving this brutal crime.

“Please, I’m begging. Driving myself crazy,” another family member said.

While there are many mysteries surrounding the murders, what is known is the killer had to be someone they knew.

Family members said Williams left behind two adult children and two young children. Williams’ sister Nicole is caring for those two young kids.

“They’re scared that somebody is still out there. That’s what we want.  Tell my niece and nephew that the person who did this to mommy can’t do this to anyone else,” a family member said.

Codd was told that Williams was murdered just days before her son turned 5 years old.

Investigators believe the person responsible has likely told someone about what happened.

If you have any information that can help detectives make an arrest in this case, call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-Tips. There is a $6,000 reward in this case. You do not have to give your name.

Double Murder Trial Begins For Man Accused Of Slaying Wilton Manors Couple

WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) – Prosecutors began laying out their case Friday in the trial of a man accused of murdering a couple in their Wilton Manors home.

“We just pictured him probably being the last one off the flight because he was always just happy,” said Marci Craig. “And he never came, he never came down that hallway.”

Craig’s brother Stephen Adams never made it to Ohio that Christmas night of 2010.

He and his partner of nearly 30 years, Kevin Powell, were murdered in their home in Wilton Manors.

Peter Avsenew is accused of killing them.

“The defendant, Peter Asvenew, brutally took the lives of Kevin Powell and Steven Adams,” said prosecutor Shari Tate. “Shot them multiple times in the head, left them to die.”

During opening statements, defense attorneys paint a picture of Asvenew as a down on his luck young father who needed work, turning to prostitution to get money and a place to live. They said he found Adams and Powell from a Craigslist ad.

“Peter put himself out there. And make no mistake, he was hired, he was hired as prostitute, as an escort, whatever you want to call it,” said defense attorney Gabe Ermine. “Mr. Powell and Mr. Adams hired him to come into their lives.”

Asvenew stayed with the couple just a few days before the murder. Prosecutor said after killing them he took their SUV and charged up their credit cards – finally making his way to his mom’s house in North Florida. She got suspicious and turned him in.

“His mom called the police to turn her son in and tells the police my son did something. He’s looking up this article of two men murdered in Wilton Manors, that’s the car he showed up out of the blue,” said Tate.

Asvenew’s attorney said he did not kill the men. Instead, he walked into the home and found them dead and panicked.

“He was not living the lifestyle where he was going to pick up the phone and call the police,” Ermine said. “He was a survivor and he went into survival mode.”

Prosecutors don’t call him a survivor – they call him a killer.

“In a recorded phone call from Broward County jail, you’re going to hear him define himself as ‘don’t you know, I’m a stone cold killer,’” said Tate. “Through the course of the next several days, you’re going to find that that is in fact true.”

WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) – Some of the most damning testimony in the double murder trial of Peter Avsenew came from his own mother.

Jeanne Avsenew is the woman who turned him in to police

Her son is accused of murdering Wilton Manors couple Stephen Adams and Kevin Powell around Christmas time in 2010, then stealing their SUV and charging up their credit cards.

Days after the murder, Peter Avensew turned up unexpectedly at his mother’s home in Central Florida.

“He said he had done something and needed to get away for six months and everything would be all right,” said Jeanne Avsenew, who testified on video.

Jeanne Avsenew said her son asked her to help him dump the couple’s car that he initially said he borrowed.

“I said, ‘Is the car stolen? You told me it wasn’t stolen, that your friend gave you this car.’  He said, ‘I lied!'” she recalled.

She went on to say, “I told him he was making me an accessory to whatever he had done.  He just laughed and said, ‘Don’t worry about it!'”

Jeanne Avsenew told investigators she obviously knew something was wrong, noting that her son had been checking the computer frequently.

When she was finally able to see what he was looking at – she was shocked.

“There was a thing Peter was person of interest in slaying in Wilton manors,” she said.

When the prosecutor asked what she saw on the computer she said, “I saw Peter’s picture, the Saturn in the background in front of house, it said they were looking for Peter Avsenew as person of interest.”

Jeanne Avsenew said after seeing that she got out of the house quickly, racing over to a friend’s home.

“I told her what was going on and what I had seen on the computer and she said the only thing I could do was call the police,” she said.

“And did you do then?” asked the prosecutor.

“I called 911,” she said.

Testimony continues Monday.

If convicted, Peter Avsenew could face the death penalty.

WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) – A jury is deliberating the fate of a Hollywood man accused of murdering a gay couple in their Wilton Manors home seven years ago.

Peter Avsenew, 32, is facing the death penalty if convicted.

With over a week of testimony, prosecutors have built their case against Avsenew, saying he shot and killed longtime partners Stephen Adams and Kevin Powell.

Avsenew, who met the couple through Craigslist, stayed with them just a few days before the murder.

Prosecutor said after killing the couple, Avsenew took their SUV and charged up their credit cards before reaching his mother’s house.

And some of the most incriminating evidence against him came from his own mother, Jeanne Avsenew. She was actually the one who turned him in.

During closing arguments, prosecutor Shari Tate quoted statements Avsenew had made since the killings.

“He says ‘don’t you know, I’m a stone cold killer,’” Tate told the jury.

She said Adams and Powell tried to help Avsenew who was down on his luck.

“And for their generosity helping him out, they paid with their lives,” said Tate.

But Avsenew denies he killed Adams and Powell.

Avsenew’s defense attorney, who painted him as a man down on his luck, said he discovered the couple shot to death and fled in a panic

“He was not living the lifestyle where he was going to pick up the phone and call the police,” Gabe Ermine said. “He was a survivor and he went into survival mode.”

What’s more is that Ermine said there was a lack of evidence.

“There was no blood. Not just on Peter Avsenew – not on his clothes and not in the car,”  said Ermine.

Avsenew told the judge Tuesday he did not want to testify at his trial.

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The jury has decided the fate of a man accused of murdering a gay couple in their Wilton Manors home back in 2010.

The jury found Peter Avsenew, 32, guilty of killing the couple – Kevin Powell and Stephen Adams.

Avsenew had no reaction to the verdict even though he could be executed for the crimes.

Adams’s sisters who were in the courtroom for the whole trial wept when the verdict was read.

They were troubled that Avsenew showed no remorse but say the verdict brings them some peace of mind.

“It was hard on our parents. We lost our dad two years ago but he told us we have to forgive Peter,” said Missi Badgett.

Missi Badgett and her sister Marci Craig say they have forgiven Avsenew.

They won’t say whether they support the ultimate penalty – death by lethal injection which the jury has the option of imposing.

“We will leave that up to the jury,” they said.

The jury deliberated about 14 hours over three days before finding Avsenew guilty on all counts.

It was back over Christmas 2010 when police say Avsenew shot and robbed Powell and Adams.

Avsenew, who met the couple through Craigslist, stayed with them just a few days before the murder.

Prosecutors said after killing the couple, Avsenew took their SUV and charged up their credit cards before reaching his mother’s house.

Some of the most incriminating evidence against him came from his own mother, Jeanne Avsenew, who turned him in.

Avsenew denied he killed Adams and Powell.

His attorney had painted him as a man down on his luck and said he discovered the couple shot to death and fled in a panic.

As for his sentencing, the jury will return in January to consider the death sentence for Avsenew.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – City of Miami Police arrested two men on Saturday for a deadly shooting that took place in Liberty City.

Two victims in the shooting died from their injuries. Both were teenage boys.

Police arrested Yaairnes Bryant and Anthony Clinch on Saturday.

They are accused of firing more than 25 shots at four teens back in April, killing two.

Shirelda Thomas’ 18-yr-old nephew Ricky Dickson was one of them.

“He meant the world to us,” she said. “You know that was his mom’s only son.”

17-yr old Kimson Green also died that day.

A 12th grade student at Miami Northwestern survived along with a fourth person.

“We can’t bring him back and there’s nothing we can do to ease that pain or possibly the family’s pain,” Thomas said.

The two men appeared before a judge on Sunday.

It happened at Northwest 63rd Street and 13th Place, just blocks away from where 4 year-old Nyla Jones was inadvertently shot and killed while sitting in a car.

A relative says her uncle opened fire during an argument over food stamps.

Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho says authorities believe the quadruple shooting is gang related.

“Their innocence and the innocence of our community is being chopped away, one life, one soul at a time,” he said.

According to Carvalho, more than five students from Miami Northwestern have been shot and killed over the past three years.

To loved ones and the community, that’s five too many.

“If you know something, say something,” Thomas said. “If everybody gets together and start opening their mouths a lot of this senseless killing would stop because people will be too afraid someone’s going to say something.”

Miami Police will hold a press conference on Monday with more information about the charges that Bryant and Clinch will be facing.

Exclusive: Surveillance Tape Shows Deadly Shooting At Gas Station

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -— New surveillance tape shows the chilling moments before, during and after a gunman takes the lives of a couple at a Southwest Miami-Dade gas station.

The tape was obtained exclusively by CBS4’s Peter D’Oench on the same day that the suspect—-44-year-old Oscar Blanco—-came before a judge in bond court charged with 2 counts of 2nd-degree murder with a weapon in the deaths of 44-year-old Roxana Llorens and 55-year-old Randall Browning.

Lorens and Browning were both inside the car when the shots were fired. Llorens was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center which is right next to the gas station and she died soon after that. Browning was pronounced dead at the scene.

WATCH CBS4’S AMBER DIAZ’S REPORT:

Police say the shooting stemmed from an ongoing family dispute that Blanco was having with Llorens.

In the tape, you see the victims’ white BMW pulling up to the station and then the suspect’s white Ford F-150 Truck pulls up alongside it as if they had arranged to meet at the station.

Suddenly, you see the suspect look out the driver’s side window and shots are fired. Evidence markers at the scene indicated at least a half dozen shots were fired. The suspect drives a few yards away.

Then there is a sinister image. You see the suspect with a high-powered rifle. He gets out of the truck with it. Then you see him waving at other people to get away.

Neighbors told D’Oench they would never forget what happened and what they heard.

Grace Mbuyi said “It sounded like bang, bang, bang, bang. It was horrifying. I ran into my uncle’s room. I never thought I’d ever heard something like that.”

Mabilin Beltran said “It was like plow plow plow plow so many. We are living in tough times. People are taking justice into their own hands. I don’t think there is a reason to kill other people. It was really scary especially for the first time because of what we are living in. This is supposed to be a safe country. I love this country but people are getting out of control with guns.”

A check of records shows that other than some traffic infractions, Blanco was arrested before for carrying a concealed weapon but was acquitted on that charge and was also accused of obstructing police but that was dismissed.

Surveillance tape captures him darting in towards the gas station. This is when police say he tells the clerk to call police. He would later reportedly tell police that there was no reason for him to say anything because “everything” was captured on videotape.

The tape shows the suspect running out of the station. Off camera, he goes to his truck and places the rifle on the driver’s seat.

He returns to the station and appears to wait patiently for police to arrive. They arrive within minutes and Blanco is taken in to custody.

Blanco was reportedly angry that Llorens was living with her new boyfriend in his father’s house in Homestead.

Llorens’ mother, Ana was very emotional describing her daughter.

“She’s the best daughter she’s the best friend what else can I tell you.”

Family Of Sisters Killed In Apparent Drive-By Shooting Make Plea To Find Killer

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – The family of two sisters killed in an apparent drive-by shooting made a plea to find their killer on Wednesday.

Police say Stephanie Telusme, 27, and her 23-year-old sister, Joanna, were shot and killed near Northwest 19 Avenue and 60 Street early Sunday morning.

Their family says they were visiting a friend before they went out for the night.

“They weren’t even the ones who were targeted. They were innocent bystanders, according to their cousin Terry Silien. “It’s just a sad unfortunate situation right now that my family has to go through and have to bury two young ladies,” he continued.

“They were just out to enjoy a Saturday night and this happened,” he said. “They were here to visit friends.”

“It was just crazy. They were not even from this area. They were going to pick up friends and then they ended up getting shot and hit in the crossfire with someone firing recklessly,” said Silien.

“Question is how do they get back on the street? No one goes to jail? Cause everybody is killing each other even killers are getting killed,” said gun activist Tangela Sears.

There is frustration because no one has been arrested in the killing of the sisters.

“The power of taking back your neighborhood lies in your hands, people need to tell things. We cannot turn the tide of this unless we are in it together,” said county commissioner Esteban Bovo

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez is setting the goal of getting killers off the streets.

Two other shooting victims, Robert Allen, 30 and Jennifer Charles, 24, were also shot and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition, Miami-Dade police say.

Officers responded immediately after receiving a ShotSpotter signal around 1:30am Sunday. When police attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the area, the driver refused to stop, and soon after, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police set up a perimeter and three men were detained and questioned, however, two were released and the third was arrested for an unrelated possession of marijuana charge.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of two women in Northwest Miami.

Police said the ‘brutal’ double murder took place at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, September 2nd, in the 7000 block of NW 8th Court.

Detectives say Kerry Rossin, 27, was engaged in a violent dispute with one of the women and ended up beating and stabbing her to death.

The arrest report then says that Rossin encountered a second victim while fleeing the scene.

Rossin then proceeded to choke and strike the woman’s head with a stick and then stomp on her until she was lifeless, police said.

Investigators say Rossin left the area only to return to douse the first victim’s body with lighter fluid and set it on fire.

Rossin was subsequently located by police and confessed to his involvement in the deaths of both victims.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding these murders to contact CrimeStoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
